Anyone who has ever burned his or her mouth on any hot food or drink can try to imagine the horrifying last days of Ronald Myers. But, try as I may, the tragedy remains completely unbelievable.
An aide at a Montgomery County assisted living facility allegedly poured a cup of boiling hot cereal into the 79-year-old's mouth. Authorities say Myers, a man with Alzheimer's who could not feed himself, suffered burns to his lips, tongue and mouth and died two weeks later.

WHEN PERSONAL-care-facility offender Rosalind Lavin paid a fine and signed a promise never to open another personal-care home, we thought we'd heard the last of her.
But just in time for the holidays came news of the death of Roy Parker, a homeless man who, thinking he'd get a fresh start, took a room in an illegal rooming house Lavin ran in Roxborough. For $450 a month, he got a room with no heat, no fire alarms and no smoke detectors. He was found dead in his room on Dec. 22.

Today could mark the beginning of the controversial end of Montgomery County's assisted living facility in Norristown.
The three county commissioners are scheduled to vote on contracts with private assisted living operations willing to accept the approximate 60 residents now living at the county facility.
